Orlyday Beltran
Born in Chiquinquira Colombia, a town nestled in the mountains of Boyaca. She comes from a family of cane weavers making hats, and purses. Orlyday, started to help and learn the family business at the age of 13. When she married she started her own business and with her husband and children she opened her own workshop. Her children work at the shop on weekends when they don’t have to study and love to weave the long straps for the shoulder bags they produce. The cane grass they use is a member of the sugar cane family. Orlyday says that the products made from the “cana flecha” in her area are produced by a coop of 15 artisans who got together and purchased land in order to grow enough “cana flecha” to help preserve the grasses and sustain their art form so they can work all year round.
